Opportunities and challenges for telemedicine in the U.S.

As the access to telemedicine became more widely available during the coronavirus pandemic, and federal and state leaders loosened restrictions and regulations to support virtual care opportunities, more and more Americans have been able to handle doctor’s appointments remotely versus risking exposure to COVID-19.

Yet, as telemedicine opportunities increase, barriers remain in ensuring U.S. health care systems can support the rapid expansion, especially smaller or less-resourced practices, along with considering patient privacy and quality of care.
